PUSH LAB provides a 6 week performance-based workshop in the Fall in conjunction with our annual PUSHfest at ODC Theater in San Francisco. Workshop attendees are offered training, performance opportunities, and a look into the creative process.

PUSH TECHNIQUE taught by Raissa Simpson

The PUSH TECHNIQUE is concerned with the torso of the body as a mechanism from where movement is initiated. Each class is designed to improve accentuation of the curvature of the spin through a warm-up, footwork & core exercises to gain a deeper sense of our relations to gravity, and across-the-floor movement to form agility and dynamic pathways. The class expands upon Western Modern Dance techniques with African-derived movement and musicality. This technique builds a stationary presence in contrast with phrase work inspired by precision and effortless fluidity.

Devising & Choreography

Choreography created by PUSH Dancers & Resident Choreographer Participants gain access to our projects and work closely with PUSH Dancers and the Resident Choreographer. Each participant is empowered to grow and receive critical feedback on professional conduct and career development. Participants are hosted during the company’s regular season. The performances take place during PUSH’s annual festival.
