Position: PUSHfest Backstage Manager
Schedule: This is a seasonal independent contractor position for the Fall.
~ 33 hours, the week of September 18th, on-site at ODC Theater (3153 17th Street, SF)
Estimated Hour Commitment Week of the Fall Festival:
Wednesday September 18 – 5PM – 9PM (4 hours)
Thursday September 19 – 3:30PM – 10PM (6.5 hours)
Friday September 20 – 5PM – 10PM (5 hours)
Saturday September 21 – 2PM – 10PM (7 hours)
Sunday September 22 – 2PM – 10PM (7 hours)
Administrative Hours (3.5 hours)
Total: 33 Hours
Compensation: $16 per hour or $550 flat rate
This position provides production support to the Technical Director of PUSHfest during the week of the Festival. PUSHfest is produced by PUSH Dance Company, a contemporary dance, non-profit organization with a 14 year history in the Bay Area.
Week of the Festival
The Backstage Manager (BM) will serve as the main point of contact for the 23+ choreographers presenting work at the Festival and their dancers when they arrive at ODC Theater. In addition to making sure the artists can access the theater, the BM will be responsible for checking artists in, distributing welcome packets, fielding artist questions and reiterating expectations regarding technical rehearsals. The backstage manager will also be responsible for providing on-site, administrative & production support to both the Artistic Director (AD) and the Festival Technical Director (TD) during tech rehearsals. Duties may include: printing, running last minute errands and assisting with documentation of the technical rehearsal.
The BM will serve as the main point of contact for all PUSHfest artists as well as for the ODC box office and house managers. Duties on festival days include: fielding any last-minute artist questions and communicating artist needs with the AD and TD, greeting any PUSH volunteers and assigning them their duties for the evening, collecting audience surveys in the lobby post-show, encouraging guests to pose for photographs post-show and assisting the AD with any urgent, last-minute needs. During the performance, the BM will be responsible for giving artists their 5-minute calls and monitoring noise levels backstage. Post performance, the BM manager will assist the TD with striking.
