What is it like to work with Raissa Simpson?

Working with Raissa is exciting and playful, but also always down to business. She likes to play and build in many different directions at the beginning of the process before honing in on a specific feeling. This creates a lot of room for everyone to contribute their own voices, which is something I admire about the way she works. There is something planned for every moment of rehearsal, no minute goes to waste. We discuss the process and share our thoughts about the process itself as well as the subject of the piece. We are given videos to learn from, tasks to build and change that material and of course plenty of time for rearranging and running the work.

How do you interpret music onstage?

Once I am onstage I have become so familiar with the music that I just feel it and let it move me.  This show will be a new experience every night because of the live band!

What do you love most about dancing at the Bayview Opera House?

I am so honored to dance at the Bayview Opera House, being that it is the first opera house built in San Francisco.  It is a beautiful space, but I think my favorite part is the visual art gallery that displays local contemporary artists telling stories of the community. I love to be dancing amongst these awesome works.

What can Audiences look forward to seeing in The Motley Experiment?

Some mystery, a lot of physicality, some hip rolls and a strong and beautiful cast of 13 people!
