What is it like to work with Raissa Simpson?

Working with Raissa is a perfect balance of great guidance and self-agency. She allows us to explore and imagine while facilitating a space for her ideas to manifest physically. She values our individual experiences and our unique movement styles to create harmony and dissonance, which make for creating authentic and humanistic pieces.

How do you interpret music onstage?

Music onstage exists like a biome, it is not just an element of production but rather becomes a place for moments to happen and occur. When I’m on stage I can look at the world the music creates and I can choose what I observe and respond to. From the smallest of sounds even to most apparent, every interaction through and from my body continues to support the space that magic creates!

What do you love most about dancing at the Bayview Opera House?

I just love the spatial architecture of the Bayview Opera House. The high ceilings and grand lighting above creates an almost magical experience where any realm scape can be facilitated in. This provides us, performers, a chance to imagine and create the world we are presenting. I also love the rich history of the Opera House and honoring those who came before us and continuing the legacy for which it stands.

What can Audiences look forward to seeing in The Motley Experiment?

Audiences can look forward to a multi-medium performance that encapsulates the human condition in our history. Audiences will be presented with responses from historical fossils, that give way for active participation and viewing in an effort to achieve acknowledgment of our community and the people within it.
