Tell us a little bit about your dance background.
Twins Aviva and Molly found their way to dance from a childhood full of soccer and circus. Molly creates, performs, and organizes community events throughout the Bay Area and beyond. Aviva tours throughout Europe for most of the year as a founding member of circus collective “A Sens Unique”. Aviva and Molly have been collaborating since they were tiny, and are looking forward to presenting a new work at PUSHfest 2020.

What can audiences look forward to seeing in your work at PUSHfest?
Aviva and Molly create work that explores the intersection between movement, theater, circus and text. As artists, they are interested in finding the humanity, intimacy, and possibility of connection that come from playing with the abstract and absurd.

What are the major sources of inspiration for your choreography? What are you curious about?
We are curious about diving into relational patterns through physicalizing them. How can we amplify subtle or overlooked energetic dynamics? How can we reframe somatic experiences with the clarity of intention? How can we include the audience in our investigations using languages other than the ones we use everyday?

If you hadn’t chosen this career, what might you be doing with your life?
Aviva went to nursing school with plans of becoming as osteopathic healer. She still gets excited about medicine. Molly works part-time as a curriculum developer and is in love with cooking.

What does your work respond to or activate, within this world or within yourself?
The act of doing art generates/harnesses energy that makes both of us feel alive, connected, and full.

What advice would you pass on to an aspiring choreographer?
Keep creating. Notice what brings you energy and follow it. Don’t worry too much about whether you’re doing it “right”—you are.
