WHAT WE DO
PUSH Dance Company (PUSH) is a non-profit arts organization with the philosophy of bringing “Art to the People” by way of inclusive and equitable programming. PUSH Dance Company performs vibrant contemporary dances, providing audiences an opportunity to examine issues of identity and intersecting cultures that surround and affect us all. Founded in 2005 by Artistic Director Raissa Simpson, PUSH maintains a philosophy that bold movement and intellect can coexist. This vision also includes a BIPOC artist sanctuary for artists of color.
PURPOSE
The Stage Manager for PUSHfest 2025 provides production (light and sound) support to the Festival Coordinator during the week of the Festival. PUSHfest is produced by PUSH Dance Company, a contemporary dance non-profit organization with a 20 year history in the Bay Area.
Week of the Festival
The Stage Manager (SM) will serve as the main point of contact for the 10+ choreographers presenting work at the Festival and their dancers when they arrive at the CAST Black Box Theater. In addition to making sure the artists can access the theater, the SM will be responsible for checking artists in, distributing welcome packets, fielding artist questions, and reiterating expectations regarding technical rehearsals. The SM will also be responsible for providing on-site administrative and production support to both the Artistic Director (AD) and Associate Artistic Director (AAD) during tech rehearsals. Duties may include: printing, running errands, and assisting with documentation of the technical rehearsal.
Festival Days
The SM will serve as the main point of contact for all PUSHfest artists as well as for the PUSH box office and house managers. Duties on festival days include: fielding any last-minute artist questions and communicating artist needs with the festival coordinator, greeting any PUSH volunteers and assigning them their duties for the evening, collecting audience surveys in the lobby post-show, encouraging guests to pose for photographs post-show, and assisting the AD with any urgent needs. While performing many of the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk or stand for long periods of time; lift and carry up to 30 pounds; climb stairs; bend; kneel; reach; hold; grasp; turn objects; push or carry equipment from room to room, etc. During the performance, the SM will be responsible for giving artists their 15-minute and 5-minute calls, and monitoring noise levels backstage. Post-performance, the SM will assist with striking.
