We offer classes and workshops with a focus on mindfulness in company with restorative dance practices. The SΛNCTUΛRY is home to instructional dance techniques, movement, and the healing arts that help to improve physical and mental well-being.

As a dance and cultural center, the SΛNCTUΛRY serves artists of color in partnership with communities of color, white allies, and organizations. Through dance and movement, the SΛNCTUΛRY creates a place where Black, Indigenous, and People of Color can develop innovative ideas and restorative dance practices.

The SΛNCTUΛRY method of practice is deeply rooted in community building, and the inclusion of BIPOC/global majority people, bodies and minds. Recognized as one of the most welcoming & uplifting spaces, we have a diverse array of classes for everyone.

Our Values

  • BIPOC SΛNCTUΛRY

We value the intellect and cultural wisdom that resides in multifaceted lived experience of BIPOC people.

  • EXPRESSION & LIBERATION

We honor the physical space as a place to incubate the idea of personal, collective liberation and cultural artistic expression.

  • JOY & SOLIDARITY

We seek the transformative and emergent complex conversations between communities of color, and the multidimensional thick solidarity that impact us all.

History

The SANCTUARY opened on October 15, 2023 and is graciously funded by the Office of Economic and Workforce Development through the Nonprofit Sustainability Initiative and SF CIF, Dream Keeper Initiative and Community Arts Stabilization Trust.

In 2020, the SΛNCTUΛRY was developed by a group of working artists and community leaders to bring analysis to complex racial issues facing the dance field and the greater arts community. That same year, PUSH developed a partnership with the Community Arts Stabilization Trust to create a physical space where artists can develop innovative ideas and restorative dance practices through a new home and BIPOC Sanctuary.
